Statement:
Existence 1.b. reality as presented in experience (Merriam-Webster)
Existence as aware beings comes with many questions: Who am I? Why are we here? What is my purpose? The experience of reality, the individual circumstances, and our external reactions to reality differ. The Existential thought is that we are alone, having a subjective experience in an entirely objective world, and the individual is responsible to choose how to react. In the struggle we call life - this experience of existence - our emotional nature is the true essence of reality. Because of the subjectivity of reality, the individual is free to choose the emotions felt. Happiness, jealousy, sadness, grief, and anger are common to each human experience.
pose
The body of work titled “pose” is a representation of the individual emotional nature of the struggle of life, the questioning of the individual’s existence, and the beauty behind the struggle. The abstract angles of the body and the energy of each brush mark breathe the question of existence, a question of the struggle of life. No matter what outside items are used to distract oneself, this struggle exists within everyone. It is synonymous with existence and in this struggle comes the most beautiful experience, the essence of living itself.
Missing
The label “missing”, is a state of existence thought about in passing, or when the title is bestowed upon an individual. The true state of existence we call “missing” is limbo between the living and the dead, the space of uncertainty. Inspired by an experience with a missing persons poster, this series conveys the feelings of sorrow, grief, and unknowing manifested by the experience of living when compared to the fate of the missing. “Missing” is an exploration of this in-between state of existence.
